How hard is it to spot a sea turtle surfacing on the river? Weather and other wildlife can play a surprisingly big role in spotting the sea turtles. Can you tell how big the turtle might be? What about estimating how many you have seen?
Each sea turtle surfacing event is counted, with times and estimated turtle size (small or large). Each surfacing is recorded on the data sheet, and then the total estimated number of turtles seen is recorded. Sometimes one turtle can surface many times, so it is important to record a conservative estimate of the number of turtles spotted, so that the total number of turtles is not over-estimated.
